Judging

Have you ever heard a song for less than 5 seconds and automatically said "I dont't like it?" Yes you have. Everyone has. I have. You have. Well, most of the time you say that about a song, you end up liking it later on. No matter what your usual taste is like, you could get into any song. After hearing a song multiple times, our minds "process it" and get used to it. After getting used to it, you may get into it, unless it's a really bad song.
What's my point? Well, instead of giving up on a song and saying it sucks, you should listen to the whole thing. Maybe listen more carefully and try to appreciate it more. It's kind of like when you look at a piece of art. After looking at it for more than 5 seconds you see what it's really about and the deep meaning it has. Same thing with good music. But then again, good music to me may not be good music to you. It's all about opinion.

  1. I scoff at the people who judge a song by the first 10 seconds of it. Every song deserves a chance, whether good or bad. It makes me sick that good bands are being criticized for "that one part in that one song". People have to realize that there is more to a band than just its "#1 Hit". Some songs have a much deeper meaning than it sounds. For example, a lot of people criticize the band "Devil Wears Prada" because of the screams of the unclean singer. However, when listening to MORE of the song, they can hear a nicer, more elegant tone. And this goes on with all of their songs.

  2. That's very true and I tend to do that a lot. At first I'll listen to a song and automatically absolutely despise it. Two weeks later I'll hear it again and think it's just all right. Then maybe a month or two I'll be bobbing my head with the song. I just don't really like rap, some rap is okay. But I don't really get the meaning of the songs they sing it's always about the same things, drugs, sex, and money. There's really no deeper meaning then that, sometimes you get a good story but usually it's all the same. Anyways, yes I'm going to give music a second chance maybe I'll like it better the second time I listen to a song.

  3. Its interesting how true that is.. I will listen to a song for less then a few seconds, and instantly judge it and think I hate it or like it, without ever actually listening to the song. If i decide I don't like it, and then I hear it again, most of the time I find out that I did like the song. jeje funny.

  4. This is so true I have done it so many times. And I hate people that say that my music is bad. I listen to reggae because it calm and i like it. When people listen to what I listen they say its bad and I hate it. A week ago i hated a song and now i like it.

  5. Wow I should really give a lot of songs a second chance. I listen to a lot of rap and enjoy it, I never really gave rock a chance. I never really liked it, to me it sounded like a bunch of guys whining and complaining about a minor problem in their life, usually about how girl who doesn’t like them or something. I guess I never really listened to it deep enough or maybe I simply do not like rock music. But your blog post will definitely make me listen to the deeper meaning to a rock song. Who knows I might actually like it.

  6. This is true and it has happened to me a bunch of times before. I hear a song for the first time and feel it is not a good one, but after a week or so of heraing it a couple of times more I start to like it and find myself listening to it often. I am going to start giving all songs I dont like a second chance, maybe even old songs from years ago which I dont like I'll listen again and see if my persperctive changes...
